(Washington, DC) On Thursday, March 10, 2016, HAPCOA Executive Director Anthony Chapa, was invited to attend a meeting of national police association executives to discuss Officer Safety at the request of the White House.
The alarming rise in Line of Duty deaths caused by firearms is a concern expressed by White House Deputy Assistant to the President Roy L. Austin, Office of Urban Affairs, Justice and Opportunities, Domestic Policy Council. He invited all present to discuss the topic openly and to share ideas with the White House staff.
National law enforcement organization representatives invited to the White House and present to address the issue included National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Major Cities Chiefs Police Association, Police Foundation, International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Association of Police Organizations, Fraternal Order of Police, National Sheriffs Association, Federal Law Enforcement Officer Association, Police Executive Research Forum and HAPCOA.
Also attending and speaking at this one-hour meeting were Heather Fong, Assistant Secretary, Department of Homeland Security, Office of State and Local Law Enforcement and Ron Davis, Director, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Department of Justice.
