(Los Angeles) Several members of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers National Board worked with HAPCOA Sponsor Onnik Mehrabain to arrange a special luncheon in support of those who continue to support the efforts and mission of HAPCOA in the Los Angeles area. The event was held at Clubhouse USA in Glendale, CA on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from noon to 1:30pm
Over 30 individuals who represented area law enforcement agencies, local businesses and community leaders attended the luncheon. Those attending and making welcoming comments included Sheriff Jim McDonnell, Los Angeles County and Assistant Chief Jorge Villegas, Los Angeles Police Department. The featured presenter at this event was Anthony “Tony” Chapa, Executive Director, Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association. He shared with all present the mission, the many success stories of HAPCOA and it members. He also provided details on the upcoming 44th Annual National Law Enforcement Training Symposium to be held in Los Angeles, April 30 – May 2, 2018. Rich Rosa, HAPCOA 1st VP served as the Master of Ceremonies and Arthur Kassel, Director of Development provided closing comments.
Senior HAPCOA board members present included: Richard Rosa, 1st National Vice President (retired Supervisory Federal Air Marshal); Joaquin Herran, former National President 2013 (retired Commander LASD); and Arthur Kassel, Director of Development (former Chief, CA Mental Health Hospitals). Supporting the event and unable to attend was John Torres, Immediate Past President (retired Deputy Assistant Director, ATF).
Area command officials also attending included Commander Martin Baeza, LAPD Office of Administrative Services; Captain Alfonso Lopez, LAPD Central Traffic Division; Captain Armen Dermenjian, Investigation Division, Burbank Police Department and Diane Gonzalez, Community Outreach Specialist, FBI Los Angeles.
Retired members of area law enforcement present included retired LA County Sheriff (and founding member of HAPCOA) Leroy Baca; retired Commander Joaquin Herran, LA County Sheriff’s Department; Richard Magyar, retired California State Police; Frank O’Donnell, retired Special Agent in Charge US Secret Service Los Angeles; Brent Braun, retired ASAC, FBI Los Angeles; Ron William, retired ASAIC, US Secret Service Los Angeles and Arthur Kassel, former Chief of Law Enforcement Service, California Mental Health Hospitals.
Community leaders and business supporters in attendance included the Honorable Carmen “Nuch” Trutanich, former Los Angeles City Attorney; Gerard Orozco, Senior Vice President, CH2M; David Gee, President, Chinatown Public Safety Association; Sean Ben-Menahem, CEO, NASTEC Security Solutions; Dr Samir Daher; Peter Burney, Senior Vice President, mLogica and Ty Kim, President, The Kim Family Foundation.
