HAPCOA to participate in the 2nd Annual Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing

April 12, 2018

HAPCOA was invited and 1st VP Richard Rosa accepted to participate in a stakeholder telecon on Thursday, March 29th by the COPS Office for the upcoming 2nd Annual Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing.  The invitation served a few purposes.  First, to get the word out on the award, discuss the process and the timetable involved.  Second, it would be a great opportunity and honor if one of our own members meets the criteria to be nominated and, third have HAPCOA participate in the review process which consists of reviewing the nomination packets and providing a score with comments to be submitted to the DOJ/Office of COPS.  The process will take a few months to complete.  The award ceremony will take place in Washington, D.C., at the Great Hall of the Robert F. Kennedy Justice Department Building in September 2018.

It is recommended that before a nomination is submitted, via the DOJ web-based application form or Letter format via email, all nominees must be vetted by their respective department or organization to avoid any issues.

Only rank and file officers or deputies in a non-supervisory position are eligible for nomination. Each submission must be received by Monday, April 23, 2018 NLT 5:00 p.m. EST.  The following link will direct you to the web-based application form:  https://www.justice.gov/ag/webform/policing-award-nomination
